| UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA LAS VEGAS - Be a Rebel!!! |
 |
Give me a break! I'm off to Vegas to go to school, not to gamble my tuition away as many suggest. As a matter of fact UNLV's MBA program is a pretty good
I have decided to apply for MBA because I think it will give me the skills in business and computers therefore making me more marketable for a job that I like.
I'm planning to go to e-commerce field and in that area business skills are especially vital along with technical skills. MBA is also a program that increases you market value when i'm going to go out to get a job after I graduate.
Las Vegas is a great place to go to school. I wanted to go to the the place to escape the cold and nasty weather of North Dakota. Well, Vegas is the perfect place! Besides, I already know the place since I have attended Dixie College and hour away. The quality of living in Vegas is the lowest compare to other schools that admitted me. Another great news is that my fiance, Inessa, have been admitted to the same program!

| CHOICES, CHOICES!!! Applying to Graduate School |
 |
Well, here is what I was looking for in graduate schools: First, I would have to receive a full financial package from the school because I don't have $20,000 laying around. As a foreign student I'm not eligible for loans, besides I don't want any debt. So I was looking for assistantships. Most schools I applied had good packages that covered tuition and fees.
Second, I was looking for a good program either in Business Administration with MIS concentration or E-commerce. I'm planning to go to e-commerce or web related business after graduate school and be a team leader or manager or a web developer, something like that.
Third, I was looking for location. Making a "mistake" of going to the coldest part of the USA, this time I wanted to go somewhere worm, as well as to the place that would be a big city. Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Orlando, Dallas, Memphis are one of the few cities I was looking at.
I have started looking for schools as early as the beginning of my senior year in Valley City State University. Then I have inquired (lots of phone calls) about the program and most important if the school has good financial assistance. Many schools told me one thing, and when it came the time to apply, or even worse, after I applied, I found out other things they didn't want to tell me, like they do not give any money to foreigners. I think it is very stupid and unprofessional to lie for schools.
I have taken GMAT, a test all applicants to MBA programs have to take, in December. In early January and February I have applied to most schools since the deadline for foreign students in around February 1. I've started to hear back from school either with rejections or requests for more information in April. Some schools were rather ridiculous about the documents, requiring all official stuff, pretty much requiring me to shell out around $200 in expenses for additional GMAT scores and transcripts.
Well, all bad things aside I have received several good offers and after looking at the cost of living in several schools i have selected UNLV. And that is the end of this story...
