REAL ROAD TRIP - this weekend sucks - let's go for the road trip! |

(Travel Dates: May 24, 2001 - May 27, 2001)
It was a dull humid May week in Valley City, North Dakota. Our fullback, David Woods, and I were still in the dorms, for the reasons we are still trying to understand. But that is not the point. The point is that we were really bored and with Memorial Day weekend approaching we decided to take a road trip. First we joked about it, but then we got really serious. So in 3 days we had everything planned, and I even got cheap tickets for Inessa to fly in to Denver from Washington DC.

After calculating that it will take us about 12 hours to get to Denver, we left in the evening just in time to capture the sunset in North Dakota.
So we were driving, and driving, and driving... On the way we passed lots of trucks and killed many bugs.
| |
| |
By morning we were running low on our supplies, but the back of my car looked like a dump truck, filled with empty Gatorade bottles, wrappers, etc.
Ladies, meet David Woods, or just Woods... Yep, here he is driving my Escort thinking he is all cool. Escort doesn't look cool thought. After driving all night we were really tired.

Finally, Denver is straight ahead! First thing is to check into the hotel, then go to Coors Brewery tour before Inessa gets in. We decided to do it before cause she doesn't like beer. So, here we were, at Golden, Colorado, in the lobby of the world's famous Coors Brewing Company.
Hey, I always wanted to know how they make beer, since I drink it, and plus they had free samples of beer to taste. However, Woods was rather hesitant and was calling me an alcoholic even before we got to the free samples. Well, he doesn't know all things since he doesn't drink - therefore he thought it was a waste of time.

| |
During the tour Woods and I hang out behind the tour group and almost got lost, but got this really good pictures of brewing kettles behind me (in bronze).
This whole room supplies enough Coors beer to quench thirst for the entire land west of Mississippi! Can a get one of those on my backyard?
| |
| |
Doesn't Woods look like he is wearing the dress? Anyway, behind his is the timeline of Coors packaging, and below us is the packaging assembly line!
End of the tour - bring on the free brew! Well, Woods is drinking nonalcoholic beer (what a girl!), he is driving, while I'm getting hammered with my 5th glass...
| |
| |
OK, enough about beer. Well, we met Inessa at the airport in the evening, and the next day went to Colorado Spring - a beautiful city. There we stopped at Garden of Gods, a really beautiful place of red rocks and vivid vegetation, lots of trees.
And here I am - don't be scared, it is me thanks to Woods, who gave me this haircut (what a lame job he did). Don't I look like John Barry who played for Detroit Pistons? Well, anyway, Inna and I are posing with Garden of Gods behind us.

| |
Woods and I showing off our Football Championship rings. Take that! Talking about football - I was done and Woods had another year to go at VCSU.
We hang out in the Garden of Gods park: it is like a civilized place where trals are laid out with brick. I can't say we went camping there...
| |
| |
Inessa with some rocks from the Garden not far behind with Rocky Mountains in the far background. Flowers near her match the ones on her tanktop :)
So then we went to US Olympic Training Center where we took a tour and got free tickets later that day for volleyball game between Brazil and USA.
| |
| |
Go USA! And Kazakhstan, too!
Inessa - an Olympic Champion and a gold medal winner (in sleeping)!
| |
| |
Here we are at the volleyball game between USA and BRAZIL. Man, those guys can jump high!
Last task of our trip: hang out in downtown Denver and take pictures!

Woods in front of the Colorado State Capitol Building.
...and here is me in front of the Denver City Hall.
| |
| |
Of course before we left we had to visit Mile High Stadium. Here we are near the new stadium (Invesco Field), which is right next to the old Mile High where Broncos played until 2002 season.
Time to go back to ND... Well, it was a boring ride back and we wanted to get to VCSU as fast as we could. So here is my car's speedometer reading 80 MPH somewhere in Idaho (speed limit = 75 MPH)
